Math
Grades 9-12

LKSD utilizes HMH Into Math for mathematics courses for K-12 math courses. Students should be exposed to Into Math in Grades 7 & 8 in tier 1. This path should prepare students for Algebra 1 as 9th graders. HMH Into AGA builds on Into Math with a comprehensive Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 curriculum for high school students. Into AGA provides the depth of knowledge, complexity of conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and applications students need for critical assessments, calculus, college and career.

LKSD also partners with the Kuskokwim Campus of UAF (KUC) to offer dual credit math classes.

Into Math for Algebra, Geometry and Algebra II provides a level of rigor and challenge suitable for students at this academic level. It presents problems and activities that encourage critical thinking, logical reasoning and problem-solving skills, helping students develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.

Supplemental Resources

ALEKS helps students master course topics through a continuous cycle of mastery, knowledge retention and positive feedback. Each student begins a new course with a unique set of knowledge and prerequisite gaps to fill. By determining the student's baseline of knowledge, ALEKS creates an individual and dynamic path to success where students learn and then master topics.

Our secondary math courses are built around Alaska state standards. Much time and thought have gone into the development of our Math programs, so fidelity to the curriculum is important. However, teachers may need to consider substitutions or using supplemental materials for a particular lesson.
